=1925= Motor Supply Shop

July ends in a day and like so many seasons, years and then decades, times move on and things change.
I post this picture for Tim my upstairs neighbor. I am certain the high-resolution version (double click on the photo0 will fascinate him as much as it does my own eye.

Bach Gains a New Head

=July 30th 2008=Ty Pennington=

Today I turn 51. ABC's television show Extreme Makeover Home Edition is here in Charlotte and today the family's old moldy house comes down.
I have sobbed a bit this morning when I think about how wonderful this is for the city. I feel by proxy I am receiving a fabulous birthday present.
I just wish we could get into a new trend of great humanity and a time of helping our neighbors and bettering our communities.
I left a comment on the message Boards area of ABC's site for EMHE. You can not miss it: Charlotte NC July 30th 2008.
If you Cut & Paste this link you will arrive there and can read it along with a lot more from the show and its viewers and fans.

Here is the actual correct view of the harpsichord as garbage you see in the pictures along the right side of the blog here.
The instrument is truly oriented this was so that the bridge that can be made out and the strings do run the contrary way that most would expect.
It might look wrong, but it is how this harpsichord was made and it works with a mechanism that fits its form and shape. The lowest bass string is parallel with and follows along the diagonal side to the left, ending near the end, the tail, of the harpsichord.
Rest assured, many will not get this point , but this is the corrected picture of the instrument here above!

=1922= John Sloan Painting

This is "The City From Greenwich Village" and it is quite amazing how similar the view from the house at North Cecil to present day Charlotte and the New York City of 1922. The hustle, bustle and noise.Soon enough the trolleys will be back to this corner, just like the famous painting.

I Lost a Day

I was not feeling well at all this week and was in bed for a few days. Somehow in all that I thought it was a day later than it actually is. So, tomorrow is Friday and not today. The house has been busy lately, with the newest (downstairs and last available) apartment is now being filled with furniture and things by the new tennant
The heat of the summer has subsided for a few days here and we will probably have a nice a tolerable weekend. I am so weary of the constant thunder, lightning, wind and POURING rain. I know we stll have a deficit of ground water here in Charlotte, but when it rains now it is 45 minutes of downpour that can flood with winds that can knock over houses, trees down with lightning and just plain mayhem. Onward we go though !

Last thing: I turn 51 next week, what shall I do?
1957 was a great year.

=1925= Neighborly Advice

They had tea together and talked about what was going on around town.
Such was the leisurely life in 1925.

New Neighbors

Out of the four apartments here we now have the two empty apartments filled with tenants. Upstairs has moved in: a very pleasant couple Tim & Chris. They both came out to my porch downstairs last night and got to know myself and Donna from upstairs as well as KT (Donna's daughter) and her boyfriend , Trey. Tim & Chris both have new kittens they rescued from the humane society; they are little but typical cats that are discovering everything and getting a little into trouble already !
It was a great night with perfect weather and a full moon (the Roaring Moon) that was worth every minute of indulgence you could see it rise in the sky.
I know the new person in the other (downstairs) apartment works for the city of Charlotte and he will move in in just a few days I am certain!

Dickens Iowa=1936=

2008=1929

Everyone everywhere and almost totally without exception tells me that they are petrified of what seems to be happening in America. Prices are rising like they never have in my lifetime, or any one's, and this is really just a slight foretaste of the horror to come this winter. I see the financial disaster of the time when I was moving: March & April as the first equivalent of October 1929... and following that reference, as it is now July 2008, that would be the equivalent of early 1930. Again, just a foretaste...this cold winter to come will be a time when many will die in their homes and apartments-- frozen, probably not discovered for days and possibly weeks They will die with their pets, with their meager food, with everything stone-cold.. This is the state of our nation and its mood. Dysfunctional and xenophobic, a place where neighbors hardly speak and everyone has a chip on their shoulder. I will survive as Charlotte and the weather here has tussled with me before and I know what to do. The poor, the older folks up north, those without and the homeless or home-stressed--Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago-- just imagine how tragic. It will be like a small ice-age of bleak gloom and death.
